The Bellamy Garden

Dr. Bellamy built a grand house; Mrs. Bellamy inspired a beautiful garden.

Mature towering Magnolia Grandifloras, one of which is taller than the house itself, anchor today’s garden. The formal garden has been recreated to suggest the original one of the mid-nineteenth century complete with curving pathways paved with loose crushed oyster shells and elliptical flowerbeds. Plant materials are chosen from antique varieties that would have been available during the garden’s early years. The lavish attention Mrs. Bellamy gave her garden is now carried on by our FloraBelles volunteers. The garden is open everyday for an enjoyable stroll.
