Hear regional favorite, Harry Warren, Director of the North Carolina Museum of Forestry, discuss the rise and fall of the naval store industry in southeastern North Carolina. African-American History Day
Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM

Regular Admission costs apply: $10.00 for Adults, Children ages 5-12: $4.00, Children under 5: free. Special rate for African-American History Day: Students with a current student ID: $3.00.

Come and experience the Bellamy Mansion with a focus on 19th century African-American History of the area. The Bellamy household included not only the eleven Bellamy family members, but also nine enslaved African-Americans who lived on the site and worked throughout the house. Learn about their lives as well as those of the free blacks and hired-out slave artisans who built this grand house, the carriage house, and slave quarters.

Featuring:

• African-American History focused tours of site on the ½ hour, 10:30 AM 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM. There will be a short lecture on various subjects pertaining to African-American history at the beginning of each tour.

• Kitchen interpretations of African-American slave life and foods of 19th -century Cape Fear region with reenactment of Sarah, the Bellamy’s enslaved cook by Ms. Sulnora Spencer of Kenansville, N.C. or Louise Harrison of Leland, N.C.

 

'What's It Worth' Informal Appraisal Clinic
Sunday, September 27 from 3-7:00 p.m.

Bellamy Mansion is hosting a fun and informal antiques evaluation clinic featuring numerous Cape Fear area antique dealers and experts. Call for tickets at 910.386.6126.

Tickets: Tickets available for purchase beginning August 17, 2009 Cost: $10 per person for entry includes choice of 2 lectures (no member discount for this event) $5 per item for evaluation • Limit of 3 items (for large and bulky items please bring a photograph) • Please do not bring musical instruments or weapons
