Once this floor boasted four large, bright bedrooms, though now a gallery space for traveling exhibits and local artists. Three rooms have closets, which were unique for the time, and the only original bathroom is off the NW bedroom. The bathroom originally housed a “shower bath” and likely a commode chair, like the one on display, which housed a chamber pot, and an enslaved worker emptied the contents into the privies in the slave quarters. The bathroom had hot and cold running water, another status symbol in the mid-19th century.
